How to find the right set for you:
The perfect set size depends on several factors, such as whether you use a dryer or if you use other diapers alongside Judes. If you're unsure which set is the best fit for you and your child, simply visit our Set Finder.
Through our coaching, we'll show you:
- How your child can become diaper-free much earlier than with disposable diapers (all without "rewards and punishment")
- How your Judes always stay leak-proof (even at night)
- How you can have just 15 minutes worth of maintenance per week with Judes (2 minutes per day)
- How changing with Judes remains easy in all situations (on the go, at different stages of age, etc.)
- How your Judes stay slim-fitting, ensuring clothes continue to fit
- How to store and wash your Judes hygienically
- How you end up saving a lot of money compared to disposable diapers
- How to ensure that your child's skin stays healthy (without the need for moisturizing creams and diaper rash ointments)
- How to make sure that Judes feel comfortable for your child
Why do we offer diapering coaching?
We've personally experienced as parents that after buying a large package of cloth diapers, we were left to figure it out on our own.
From this experience, it is important to us to support you after your purchase in accompanying your child in becoming potty trained.
Included in your Judes set is our coaching. After your purchase, you will receive access, so you can always reach out with questions regarding changing with Judes, diaper freedom, and potty training. Many parents report that they feel very well supported and are happy to be able to contact us at any time.
It is important to us that our interests and your interests as a mom or dad are aligned.
Here you'll find a detailed explanation on how it works.
1. Place our Poo Paper into the inner diaper and put the diaper on your baby (same handling as disposable diapers).
2. The Judes Paper catches the poop. You dispose of the Judes Paper in the trash and the inner diaper goes into the Wetbag.
3. The Wetbag along with the diapers goes into the washing machine. At 60°C and 1000 rpm, everything becomes clean again.
4. Dry - and start over!
By the way: Washing with Judes takes about 15 minutes per week.
Disposable diapers generate approximately 1 ton of plastic waste per child during the entire diapering period. The same amount of plastic waste is produced for each additional child.
While there are compostable disposables and disposable diapers made from recycled plastic, they cannot be composted or recycled within the waste systems. They end up in landfill.
About 8% of landfill waste in Germany is caused by disposable diapers.
This is how we calculate the amount of plastic waste prevented by using disposable diapers with our sets:
Classic Set Part-Time
With this set, parents usually diaper half the time with Judes. This set also includes only one size, so it can only be used for about half of the diapering period. Disposable diapers generate 1 ton of plastic waste, hence about 500kg of plastic waste is produced during half of the diapering time. Since parents diaper part-time with Judes using the Part-Time Set, they can prevent 250kg of plastic waste with the Judes Classic Part-Time Set.
Classic Set Small
With this set, parents usually diaper with Judes 75% of the time. We assume that diapering is done with this set for half the period since it includes only one size. Therefore, 375kg of plastic waste can be prevented with this set.
Classic Set Standard and All-In
With this set, parents normally diaper entirely with Judes. We assume that diapering is done with this set for half the period since it includes only one size. Thus, half of a ton of plastic waste, i.e., 500kg, can be prevented with this set.
The Premium Sets include both sizes, meaning diapering can be done with Judes for the entire period. Therefore, 500kg of plastic waste is prevented with the Premium Part-Time Set. For the Small Set, it is 750kg, and with the Premium "Standard" and "All-In" Sets, approximately 1 ton of plastic waste from disposable diapers is prevented.
Here you can learn how sustainable Judes really are compared to disposable diapers.
In our calculation, we base the average diaper price (across all sizes) on the following brands:
- €0.27 (Pampers)
- €0.34 (Eco by Naty)
- €0.31 (Lillydoo)
- €0.35 (Lillydoo Green)
As of 05.06.22 at dm.
The average of these prices is 32 cents. We will use this diaper price for the following calculations.
Children should be changed every 2-3 hours, therefore we calculate 7 diapers per day (over 24 hours). We also assume that children with disposable diapers need to be diapered on average for 3 years.
From these assumptions, the following calculation arises:
3 years × 365 days × 7 changes at €0.32 each = €2,434.
In addition, the costs for a diaper pail (€15), refill cassettes (about €67 per year), wet wipes (about €98 per year), and changing pads (about €17 per year) must be considered. In our calculation, we assume that an average of 9 wet wipes are used per day at €0.03 each (average price). In total, we arrive at €561 in costs for disposable diaper accessories.
The total costs from disposable diapers and accessories amount to €2,995 after 3 years of diapering.
This means that approximately €1,000 in costs is incurred per year by disposable diapers. However, many children require disposable diapers for longer than 4 years (about 25% of children). Thus, using disposable diapers can become a cost trap.
We have also made a calculation with an extremely inexpensive disposable diaper option:
Even if we consider the economical Babylove diapers (dm's own brand), after the calculation above we arrive at €996. Added to this are the costs for the diaper accessories amounting to €561. In this extremely economical case, we arrive at a total cost of €1,557.
The larger the Judes set, the less often you have to wash. For instance, with an All-In set, you only need to wash your Judes every 4 days. Therefore, a larger set also results in lower washing costs.
Cost Calculation per Judes Set
We base our calculation on the average diapering time with Judes: 2 years and 3 months. We assume that you are using Judes Family full time.
Each wash load costs 71 cents (approximately 41 cents for electricity, water, and sewage, and about 30 cents for detergent costs). Some washing machines are cheaper, others are more expensive. Here you can calculate your exact washing costs.
For the dryer, it costs about 0.50 cents with a modern one and about 1.20€ with an older dryer. In this calculation, we take the average value of 0.85 cents.
Washing costs depending on the size of the set
Part-Time (washing would need to be done every day): 365 days x 2 years and 3 months x 0.71 cents = 583€. The dryer costs would be 822€.
Small (washing would need to be done every other day): 182 days x 2 years and 3 months x 0.71 cents = 291€. The dryer costs would be 411€.
Standard (washing would only need to be done every third day): 122 days x 2 years and 3 months x 0.71 cents = 194€. The dryer costs would be 233€.
All-In (washing would only need to be done every fourth day): 122 days x 2 years and 3 months x 0.71 cents = 146€. The dryer costs would be 175€.
You can save significantly on washing and dryer costs by choosing a larger Judes set. Especially if you're using a dryer, it's financially worth it to opt for a larger Judes set.
Children who wear Judes or combine them with disposable diapers often become potty trained 2 years earlier than with disposable diapers alone (on average almost 1 year sooner).
This is because children with Judes receive natural bio-feedback from which they learn. Disposable diapers are designed to always feel dry. This leads to children in disposable diapers becoming diaper free later on.
We conducted a survey with more than 5,000 parents - with astonishing results.
